This 11" by 14", acrylic flower painting and painted butterfly painting,
is done in hues of yellow,
yellow ochre, naples yellow, gold ochre, and white. In the center of the
flower is a section of crimson. A long stamin juts out of the
center of the Hibiscus, and two leaves are colored
in hues of prussian green, yellow, and olive green.
A white painted butterfly with yellow ochre markings sits on the left most leaf of the acrylic flower painting. I created this acrylic flower painting as an experiment with dripped backgrounds and I liked the result. The background for the flower and butterfly painting was created by spraying applied colors with a water. The paint formed drips down the entire vertical span of the canvas, creating an abstract effect. The hues for the background of the flower and butterfly painting are purple, violet, blue, and crimson, together forming a complement to the yellows and white of the flower and painted butterfly. The background of the acrylic flower painting was further softened with applications of white scrubbed over various parts of the drips.
The acrylic flower painting and painted butterfly canvas has been sprayed with clear acrylic gloss varnish to keep the colors bright, and has been signed by the artist. This painting ships flat in a no-bend cardboard box.
